Businesses don\u2019t really want to be in charge of insurance plans; if they could get away with it, they would drop insurance. But they can\u2019t, and the consequences for those that try <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/wonkblog\/wp\/2012\/12\/06\/red-lobsters-obamacare-fail-why-ditching-health-benefits-is-really-hard\/?wprss=rss_ezra-klein\" target=\"_blank\">are pretty severe<\/a>. Every business would like to do it, but unless everybody does it at the same time, nobody wants to go first.<\/p>\n<p>If businesses didn\u2019t have to offer health care, they could focus their energy on doing what they do best, be it selling widgets, cars, cakes, what have you. Employers also wouldn\u2019t need to spend time and money benchmarking their competitors. Employees wouldn\u2019t let a lack of health coverage prevent them from switching jobs, which is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyfinance.com\/2011\/03\/17\/health-care-reform-how-benefits-portability-economy\/\" target=\"_blank\">major impediment to labor market liquidity<\/a>. Entrepreneurship would increase. Finally, those currently administering plans on a company-wide level could do something that adds more to their employer\u2019s productivity.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a win all around, and that\u2019s what confuses me.
