{"id":834,"date":"2012-12-04T20:27:48","date_gmt":"2012-12-05T02:27:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nathanhunstad.com\/blog\/?p=834"},"modified":"2012-12-04T20:29:59","modified_gmt":"2012-12-05T02:29:59","slug":"thats-a-tax-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nathanhunstad.com\/blog\/2012\/12\/thats-a-tax-plan\/","title":{"rendered":"That&#8217;s a tax plan!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Center for American Progress (CAP) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/wonkblog\/wp\/2012\/12\/04\/clintons-guys-brought-down-the-deficit-once-now-theyre-trying-to-do-it-again\/?wprss=rss_ezra-klein\" target=\"_blank\">came out with a tax plan<\/a>. And it\u2019s a pretty darn good one! It\u2019s actually fairly close to a plan <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nathanhunstad.com\/blog\/2012\/10\/im-unelectable\/\" target=\"_blank\">I\u2019d support<\/a>. It raises the top bracket to Clinton-era levels, it caps deductions, it increases the capital gains tax and the tax on dividends, it gets rid of the AMT, and it taxes cigarettes, alcohol, and newly-legalized internet gambling (something I would <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nathanhunstad.com\/blog\/2011\/04\/u-s-government-shuts-down-online-poker\/\" target=\"_blank\">dearly like to be able to do<\/a>). This is exactly the kind of tax reform that Obama should support.<\/p>\n<p>So what\u2019s wrong with it? David Frum actually has a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/articles\/2012\/12\/04\/the-fiscal-cliff-s-upper-class-battle.html\" target=\"_blank\">very good insight<\/a> into what the tax battle is on the Republican side today: it\u2019s about the merely rich versus the super-rich. The merely rich would have higher taxes under the CAP plan, \u2018tis true, but the super rich would have <em>much<\/em> higher taxes. The super-rich seem willing to toss those below them beneath the wheels of the bus to save their own skins, which is not altogether surprising.<\/p>\n<p>I have little faith that this tax plan will be implemented, but this would be a great starting point for Democrats in Congress.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Center for American Progress (CAP) came out with a tax plan.
