AT&T being out of the question, as well as Sprint, our choice was none else but Verizon. Verizon had two things going for it: the iPhone 4S, and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The salesperson did his due diligence and informed me of the issues that the Galaxy Nexus has, and tried to steer me towards Motorola, but after I told him I will never buy Motorola again, I had my Galaxy Nexus in hand. Julia picked up the iPhone 4S instead.

I thoroughly enjoy my Galaxy Nexus. It is easily the best phone I have ever used. Ice Cream Sandwich on the phone’s hardware is incredibly fast, with none of the lag that I had on my old phone. The AMOLED screen is incredibly sharp and bright. Apps all work beautifully. It’s just a great phone.

The phone is larger than the iPhone, and some people may think it is too big, but I don’t mind the size. I also think I have seen the signal issue myself, but as I rarely make voice phone calls it hasn’t been much of a problem (the data connection hasn’t really dropped out for me). Finally, the notification LED on the phone didn’t work to my satisfaction when I got it. However, after a bit of Googling, I found the Light Flow App, which is well worth the $1.99. It made the notification LED useful again.

All in all, I have zero complaints about my purchase. I do think that this is the phone that future Android phones are going to be measured against.

Last weekend Julia and I ended the tyranny of our T-Mobile contract (even though the merger with AT&T fell through, I was sufficiently spooked by the spectre of giving money to AT&T that we bailed).
