Of all the political debates out there, the one that confuses me the most is the notion that some people would be against net neutrality who did not work for ISPs like AT&T and Verizon. There are liberal/conservative splits on many issues that have merit, but when it comes to net neutrality, I can’t see… Continue reading Net Neutrality

Another Windows 7 woe
I’ve been using Windows 7 now for a couple weeks, and for the most part, it’s working great. However, I recently discovered another problem, and sadly, it doesn’t seem to be one that’s limited to me: problems with sharing a printer with a Mac
Thoughts on Internet predictions, ten years later
So yesterday, I posted an email I wrote a bit more than ten years ago about what I saw for the future of the internet. How well have they held up to time? Pretty well, I think.
Internet predictions, ten years later
I’ve been going through my old emails lately, trying to see if I’ve ever written anything of importance. The jury is still out on that, but I did find something interesting: an email I sent to one of my friends about my predictions for this new-fangled Internet thing. I sent it on 14 September 1999,… Continue reading Internet predictions, ten years later
Windows Security – why not Run With instead of Run As?
I’ve had a bit more time to see exactly what UAC does in Windows 7, and I’ve decided that Microsoft still isn’t getting this right. UAC, and the "Run As…" command, are a good idea, but I think they are making it needlessly complicated and confusing.
Windows 7 thoughts

I think it is worth the hassle I’ve gone through, and since I only… Continue reading Windows 7 thoughts
My Windows 7 nightmare rant
Way back in July, when Microsoft announced the special deal for Windows 7 preorders, I decided to take the plunge and buy it. I had been using Windows XP since 2001 in one incarnation or another, and it looked like Windows 7 would be a decent upgrade. In addition, I was having more and more… Continue reading My Windows 7 nightmare rant
Windows 7
I’ll be an early adopter for once and get Windows 7 tomorrow. Since I currently have XP, I’ll have to do a clean install (which you should do for an OS change anyway). I’ll also be taking this opportunity to repartition one of my hard drives. So tonight, I’m backup up everything important for the… Continue reading Windows 7
Controlling form access in Access 2007
I do a fair bit of programming in Access 2007, after having started in Access 97 and moved on to 2000. The 2007 versions of Office programs had many significant changes, including the Ribbon, but one change that slipped under most people’s radar was the removal of user-level security. Access 2007 files no longer used… Continue reading Controlling form access in Access 2007
